IC443 - The Jelly Fish Nebula

A massive supernova remnant in the constellation of Gemini.

Supernova are vital astronomical events where a star literally explodes scattering the heavy elements, made during its lifetime, into space to be reused in new stars and planets.

Your gold jewellery originated in a supernova - how cool is that?

There are three shells, or shockwaves, of ionised gases present in the Jelly Fish, one of which may predate the supernova event which occurred between 3,000 and 30,000 years ago.

My first attempt at this interesting target, it needs a lot more data and better processing. Zooming in will reveal a faint blue shell around the Jellyfish but this should be much brighter than I have manged to show.

I intend to come back to this target and capture more data when my processing skills have improved.
